India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is finally entering the electric vehicle market with its much-awaited e-Vitara, an all-electric SUV based on the popular Grand Vitara platform. The Maruti e-Vitara will be the company’s first fully electric SUV, designed for the Indian market with a focus on affordability, range, and practicality. Scheduled for launch in 2025, it will take on rivals like the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, and upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
Modern SUV Styling With Aerodynamic Tweaks and Signature EV Design
The e-Vitara will retain the muscular SUV design of the Grand Vitara, but with electric-specific styling elements. Expect a closed-off grille, aerodynamic wheels, unique LED headlamp signatures, and a redesigned front bumper to distinguish it from its petrol-hybrid sibling. The rear is likely to get a full-width LED light bar and new EV badging. Ground clearance and overall proportions will remain SUV-appropriate, with added efficiency-focused tweaks.
Feature-Rich Cabin With Connected Tech and Premium Comfort
Inside, the Maruti e-Vitara will offer a feature-loaded and futuristic cabin, with a floating touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and voice-enabled smart assistant. Other features may include automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, and a connected car suite with remote charging status and location tracking. The interior will use eco-friendly materials and modern finishes.
High-Capacity Battery With Over 550 Km Range (Expected)
The Maruti e-Vitara will be powered by a high-voltage battery pack, likely offering a driving range of 550 to 600 kilometers on a single charge (as per MIDC). The battery is expected to be developed in partnership with Suzuki’s global EV partners and produced at Maruti’s Gujarat plant. Fast-charging capability will allow 80% charge in around 45 minutes, while home charging will also be supported. Performance will be tuned for city comfort and long highway drives alike.
Suzuki’s Electric Platform With Safety and Efficiency Optimized
The e-Vitara will be built on Suzuki’s dedicated EV platform, designed for maximum safety, space, and energy efficiency. Expect a high-tensile steel frame, multiple crash protection zones, and smart regenerative braking to enhance both safety and range. The SUV is expected to come with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline in India
The Maruti e-Vitara is expected to launch in India by mid to late 2025, possibly during the festive season. The expected price could start from around ₹22 lakh and go up to ₹27 lakh (ex-showroom) depending on battery size and variant. Maruti will likely offer aggressive financing, subscription plans, and special EV benefits to attract mass buyers. It will be sold via Nexa outlets across the country.
Maruti e-Vitara Could Be India’s Most Practical Family EV SUV
With its trusted brand value, long range, practical SUV dimensions, and smart connected features, the Maruti e-Vitara has the potential to become the most popular electric SUV in India. It combines Maruti’s strength in affordability with global EV technology, making it a strong option for first-time EV buyers and families switching from petrol to electric.
