The upcoming Kia Sonet EV is set to bring the brand’s popular compact SUV into the electric era. It will carry forward the recognizable Sonet design with EV-specific styling tweaks like a closed-off grille, aero alloy wheels, and blue accents to differentiate it from its ICE counterpart. With its compact size, bold stance, and youthful appeal, the Sonet EV will target city drivers looking for style and sustainability.
Expected Powertrain & Range
While official specs are yet to be confirmed, the Kia Sonet EV is expected to borrow its electric platform from the Hyundai Exter EV or Venue EV. The likely setup includes a 29 kWh to 39 kWh battery pack paired with a single front motor delivering around 95–120 bhp. This would offer a real-world range of 250–350 km on a single charge, making it ideal for daily commutes and short weekend trips.
Charging & Efficiency
The Sonet EV will likely support fast charging (DC up to 50 kW), allowing an 80% charge in about 50 minutes, along with standard AC home charging that fully charges the battery in around 6–7 hours. Kia is also expected to offer a bundled home charger and mobile app support for charging and monitoring.
Familiar Interior with Smart EV Touches
Inside, the cabin will resemble the ICE Sonet but with added EV-specific features like a digital instrument cluster with range/power display, rotary gear selector, and drive mode toggles. Expect features like a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, connected car tech, ventilated seats, sunroof, and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay—positioning it as a premium compact EV.
Safety & Tech Features
The Sonet EV will likely come with 6 airbags, ESC, hill assist, TPMS, and ADAS Level 1 (optional). Kia could also offer regenerative braking, vehicle-to-load (V2L) support, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates for future upgrades.
Kia Sonet EV Price in India & Launch Timeline
The Kia Sonet EV is expected to launch in early 2025, with a starting price between ₹14.5 lakh to ₹17.5 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and battery pack. It will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, and the upcoming Hyundai Exter EV. The Kia Sonet EV aims to combine the trusted styling and practicality of the Sonet SUV with clean electric power, offering a compelling option for city-focused EV buyers. With solid range, fast charging, premium features, and competitive pricing, it’s poised to shake up the growing electric SUV segment in India.
