Tata Motors is gearing up to make a strong mark in the CNG SUV space with the upcoming Tata Safari CNG. Known for its muscular design, bold road presence, and premium SUV features, the Safari is now expected to offer an eco-friendlier, fuel-efficient alternative without compromising on space, comfort, or power. With rising fuel prices and demand for cleaner mobility, the introduction of a CNG version of the Safari makes perfect sense for both urban and long-distance family commuters.
Same Iconic Safari, Now With Greener Tech
The Safari CNG is likely to retain the same design language as the ICE version, including the signature front grille, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and strong body lines. The cabin is expected to remain premium with a 6- or 7-seater layout, ventilated leatherette seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Tata may also carry over the digital instrument cluster and advanced safety features like 6 airbags, ESP, and 360-degree camera to ensure the CNG variant feels just as complete as the petrol or diesel trims.
Engine & CNG Performance Expectations
While official engine specs haven’t been confirmed, the Safari CNG is likely to be powered by Tata’s 1.5L or 1.2L turbo-petrol engine tuned to support dual-fuel (petrol + CNG) operation. Expect modest power output compared to the diesel version, but with smoother and more efficient urban performance. The CNG tank will be safely installed in the boot or underbody, with minimal impact on luggage space. Expected mileage could be in the range of 22–25 km/kg, making it one of the most efficient full-size SUVs in India.
Launch Date & Expected Price
The Tata Safari CNG is expected to debut in late 2025, with prices starting around ₹17.5 – ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will directly target fuel-conscious SUV buyers who want a premium family car with lower running costs and eco-friendly credentials. Once launched, it could become the first full-size 3-row SUV in India with a CNG powertrain, setting a new trend in the segment.
