Toyota is preparing to launch a brand-new SUV that has already created a buzz in the Indian market the Toyota Mini Fortuner. Designed to bring the rugged DNA of the full-size Fortuner into a more compact and affordable package, this upcoming SUV is expected to offer a premium road presence while being more city-friendly and accessible to a wider audience. Positioned between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the standard Fortuner, this new model will fill a critical gap in Toyota’s SUV lineup.
Striking Design Inspired by Fortuner and Land Cruiser
The design of the Mini Fortuner takes heavy inspiration from the iconic Fortuner and even borrows cues from Toyota’s global off-road lineup like the FJ Cruiser and Land Cruiser. Early renders and patent images reveal a boxy stance, aggressive LED lighting, a bold front grille, and muscular fenders that give it a strong road presence. Its rugged look combined with a modern finish makes it a strong contender against rivals like Scorpio-N and Tata Harrier.
Platform and Engine Expectations
Built on Toyota’s new IMV 0 platform, which also underpins the Hilux Champ, the Mini Fortuner is expected to offer ladder-frame construction for enhanced durability and off-road strength. Engine options may include a 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain similar to the Hyryder, and Toyota could also bring in a 2.0L petrol or a 2.4L diesel variant depending on regional demand. The possibility of a 4×4 variant remains open, especially if Toyota aims to retain the Fortuner’s off-road legacy.
Expected Launch Timeline and Price in India
The Toyota Mini Fortuner is likely to debut globally in late 2024 or early 2025, with an India launch expected soon after. If reports are accurate, the SUV could carry an ex-showroom price ranging between ₹20 lakh to ₹27 lakh, making it a more affordable alternative to the full-sized Fortuner while offering many of its core strengths. It will cater to buyers looking for an SUV that delivers performance, road presence, and brand trust without the hefty Fortuner price tag.
